1052. Thomas Keneally - The Dickens Boy

A library book via P, as was no.1051.

I struggled with the lack of any significant plot here.

One of Charles Dickens’ many children emigrates to Australia and joins I think a sheep farm there. He travels around the place and meets a number of colonials and some indigenous people.

My problem remained that there was very little plot development. He meets a girl and falls perhaps in love, but nothing happens. He meets a fairly sophisticated woman at a dinner party and she fucks him afterward because she wants a member of the Dickens family on her bed notch.

Towards the end, news arrives from England that Dickens has died and he and his brother (also in Australia) are feted locally. But I really couldn’t quite see the point of it.
