971. LJ Ross - High Force

I can’t pretend to have enjoyed this, although the high octane plot kept me reading, despite misgivings. A police procedural (poorly done) chiller.

The central character DCI Ryan is a characterless mix of Peter Wimsey and Adam Dalgleish, upper-class chaps who have ended up working with or in the police. An element of class-based sublimation I fear. His fiancé is no better.

The villain is another upper-class chap, who seems to have begun life as a respected hospital surgeon(?) but who dismembers his victims out of a perverse love for his mother and some other weird sexual fixation.

Beach reading at best.
