I found this very slight.
An Irish girl, struggling to find work in her hometown, goes to New York at the instigation of her local priest, who knows many Irish emigres to the US. She meets a young Italian there and they fall in love and marry I think civilly.
After her sister’s sudden and unexpected death, she returns to Ireland, stays longer than planned, and gets involved with a local man. But a local woman, who obviously knows the priest, reminds her that she is married in New York, and, in two minds, she returns there.
Very slight.
