A bit of local history, for a change.
Not a brilliant or particularly well written, book, but I didn’t really know that Slough in an amalgam of lots of small villages which were gradually subsumed by Slough (Slo as originally named) as a result of the great west road (now A4) linking London to Bath & Bristol. The road required hostelries and other stop over places and hence modern Slough was born and grew.
The post war industrial estate along the A4 on the west exacerbated this, and we now have modern Slough. Good to know.
