Quite a well known author, but I am not sure I have read much (if any) before.
This is a bit of historical fiction, about the V2 rocket bombs which the Germans had developed in late 1944, and used to bomb London, and I gather Antwerp.
The chapters focus alternately on Graf, a German engineer who was responsible for a lot of the development of the rocket, but has no great sympathy for the Nazis, and Kay Caton-Walsh, a Cambridge graduate who has been drafted into intelligence work post- university.
The rockets are all launched from a narrow strip of the Dutch coastline, and Kay with several others is despatched to Holland to try to plot, mathematically the exact source of the launch site, to enable the RAF to bomb it.
My assumption was that they would meet and fall in love, but this did not happen, possibly, until the last pages.
Readable, but hard work at times.
