This is a wonderful book, by an author I have never heard of.
The premise is that the brain continues activity for some minutes after clinical death when the heart stops beating, and this is the brain activity of a murdered Istanbul prostitute as she relives her life.
It begins, Tristram Shandy like, with her birth, follows her upbringing and early life of abuse by an uncle. She then flees to Istanbul, and earns a living in the only way she can, acquiring a number of wonderful friends on the way. Towards the end, they find her body in the cemetery of the companionless outside the city and rebury her in the sea where she wanted to end her days.
Very good and I should find other books by the author.
