899. Ann Granger - The Dead Women Of Deptford

Never heard of the author, but this was very good, and beautifully written.

A crime novel, set possibly in Edwardian or late Victorian London. The husband Ben Ross is a Met policeman and his wife Lizzie is a bit of an amateur sleuth. Together, they solve a murder that vicariously involves a relative of Lizzie's, and threatens the marriage of her (cousin?) Patience’s marriage to an MP.

Lots of well-written social comedy to combine with the whodunit element. Excellent – will look for more!
