887. Ted Lewis - GBH

Never heard of the author (he wrote ‘Get Carter’ apparently) and worked on the animation of 'Yellow Submarine'.

This is basically London crime in the 1970’s. The chapters are alternatively ‘The Smoke’ (some years earlier) and ‘The Sea’ where the central character, a vicious London gangland leader, is hiding from his enemies after his crime empire has been torn asunder.

The Smoke covers his criminal career, The Sea his life in hiding. Predictably his enemies eventually track him down, and the ending is quite gruesome.

Couldn’t work out the woman who appears to have tracked him down and appears, weirdly, to die with him at the end.

Crude, but quite readable. Would I buy another? Probably not.
