870. Ian Rankin - Westwind

This is rather overblown by the publishers ‘the iconic number one bestseller’, ‘the classic lost thriller’. In point of fact, as Rankin explains in the introduction, it is a novel he wrote very early in his career while still developing the Rebus idea.

Not a Rebus novel, more a spy type thriller about corruption between the US and European military as the US withdraw (with much opposition) from involvement in Europe.

Lightweight. Low grade and far from a classic. Readable but totally overblown.
