87. Jennie Rooney - Red Joan

Best holiday read so far.

About an English girl who goes to Cambridge pre-WW2 and falls in love with a Russian émigré communist. She is persuaded to become a spy, partly on ideological and partly emotional grounds.

She is unmasked, now a grandmother, some 60 years later (apparently based on a true story, although featuring a die hard Marxist without the love interest). She and her boyfriend are betrayed by his cousin who is insanely jealous of the relationship and is rescued at the end by a very Anthony Blunt style of gay English Cambridge Marxist, who is moping away in the Foreign Office.

Very good book, would look for more by the same author.
