863. Håkan Nesser - Intrigo

I have read a lot of the Inspector Van Veeteren books, but these were five stand alone novellas in which he doesn’t feature. Three have been filmed.

Quality varies; the first two reminded me of Paul Auster with slightly lost characters pretty confused by what was happening to them. The third, 'Dear Agnes', was very clever, a variant on 'Strangers on a Train', except that these characters were not strangers, but (it appeared at first) old school friends, one of whose husbands needed to be murdered. But it then became increasingly complex and I won’t give the plot away as a reader might not want to know.

The fourth ‘The Flower from Samaria' was good as well.

Good bank holiday reading.
