860. Deborah Orr - Motherwell

Very good.

Quite a difficult book about her childhood in Motherwell, written by a successful and now I think sadly dead journalist in her 50’s.

Cleverly themed around an old cabinet inherited from her parents, which contains a lot of rather trivial but memory evoking trivia. But mainly about her difficult relationship with both her parents – father a Scot from Motherwell; mother an Essex girl.

Parents must have met post war as she was born in 1962, so although a bit younger than me, a lot of the issues about growing up in the 60’s familiar and brilliantly chronicled.

Quite a difficult book as she is trying to address the difficult issues honestly.

Very good.
