844. Anne Tyler - Clock Dance

I found the first 200 or so pages quite dull, but loved the last 150.

Middle class girl, becomes woman and mother with quite a boring life. Husband killed in a car accident, and uninvolved kids. But towards the end, she is living with a dull golf playing partner and gets a call out of the blue too help one of her son’s ex- partners who has been shot (her name and phone no. are on a list he left in the kitchen).

She goes with her reluctant partner and gradually discovers a life she had never had in a run down and fairly working class bit of some city in Pennsylvania? She makes friends with all the locals and eventually returns, one assumes, to live there.

A nice journey of discovery of life after a pretty unpromising and conventional start, both for her and the reader.
