840. Ian Rankin - A Song For The Dark Times

Xmas present from Dan, signed by the author.

Parallel plot lines; Clarke in Edinburgh doing conventional police work; Rebus now semi-retired, rushing up to the north where his daughter’s partner has been murdered and she is a suspect. Both of course solve their crimes.

Unclear why Rebus and Clarke, who obviously love each other, despite the age disparity, never quite manage a relationship that goes beyond friendship, but that is Rankin’s authorial decision (it would probably be a disaster, but Banks and Annie Cabbot in Peter Robinson have achieved it, albeit unsuccessfully).
