839. Sandi Toksvig - Between The Stops

Book of the year so far.

A lovely book by a lovely and very funny woman (I loved her hosting of ‘The News Quiz’, can’t get into Q1 because the vestiges of Stephen Fry’s omnipotence always annoy me).

But what a brilliant conceit here; to structure an autobiographical sketch around her No.12 bus commute/journey from Dulwich into central London. About the history of which she has an encyclopaedic knowledge.

She is a much more acerbic character than is apparent from her rather funny and benign TV and radio presence, and despite a fairly privileged upbringing, has had a fairly tough life, particularly around homophobic prejudice.

What a wonderful woman and wonderful book!
