Probably his last published book, as he died last week.
Le Carré is a writer (like Graham Greene) whose prose an English middle class person of my generation slides into quite easily. Just various assumptions about class, intelligence, dialogue, social choices etc.
But I found the plotting here difficult. Is Nat a soviet agent? He and his wife help one to escape from the UK in the final chapter. But it is difficult to place any of the characters in any clear national/political alignment in this book. Does anyone mean what they say? Doubtful.
But very good and worth a re-read. I liked the ambiguity of the title.
