832. R. J. Ellory - Three Bullets

I think he is quite patchy and this is not one of his best (which are very good).

A fictionalisation of the Kennedy assassination in (I am sure 1963). This involves some of the characters involved – Jack Ruby and Lee Harvey Oswald, but distorts events by time, location (I am sure Dallas) and event (he was shot from a Dallas rooftop, not in a hotel bedroom) to convenience the plot. Which is about a guy who deserts a girl to become a war photographer in Korea, returns to the US to find she has apparently killed herself, doesn’t believe this and tries to uncover the truth. The girl is an investigative journalist.

But the truth is, apparently, not that she was about to unmask Kennedy’s corruption but that she had become one of his many mistresses, who were quietly murdered by his enforcers when their use had passed.

I felt the whole thing was a bit of a cheat by the author.
