831. Stephen Fay & David Kynaston - Arlott, Swanton And The Soul...

The full title continues ‘of English cricket'. But I couldn’t really work out whether it was a parallel biography of these 2 cricket journalists or a history on English broadcast and written about cricket since the late 1940’s when both began across the 2nd half of the 20th century. I am personally more interested in the sport than the people who write about it .

The authors obviously prefer the working class, lyrical commentary of Arlott to to the more austere minor public school and inherently right wing approach of Swanton (although they give him occasional credit where due). But I am not sure that a couple of cricket journalist rally merit a book. I’d rather read one about one of the forgotten players of that era – Basil Butcher or Seymour Nurse.
