830. Denise Mina - The Less Dead

I like Denise Mina, with her weird punk hair, and enjoyed her on the TV recently with Frank Skinner on Boswell & Johnson’s tour of Scotland. But this was disappointing – about a woman’s rediscovery of her birth mother who was murdered as a teenage prostitute in Glasgow in (?) the 1990’s.

So thematically interesting, but the plot was mainly about her and some not very interesting friends and the rediscovery of the murderer was a bit of a backdrop. Also, Margo, the heroine, is a doctor but she was never depicted as having to go to work at all; reminded me a bit of one of my irritations with Iris Murdoch, most of whose characters seem to have infinite amounts of money with no economic responsibility.

So, didn’t do a lot for me.
