Another John Fowles. Quite a strange book about a man who kidnaps a girl with whom he is obsessed and imprisons her in his cellar. But much of the narrative is the girls perception of this and of her life and characters in it prior to this process.
She is Miranda and in her narrative he is Caliban, but she is equally obsessed with an elderly artist initialled GP, which the kidnapper misunderstands when she is ill near the end. The girl eventually dies and he buries her in the garden and begins to plot another victim . But he is totally fucked up. Strange.
