The first in this series and thematically similar, a beautiful woman throws herself into Rawlins' arms/bed. She is also caught up in criminality and this time because (I think) she is having an incestuous affair with her brother who is otherwise one of a string of low grade criminals. Mouse appears again to rescue Rawlins. These books are OK, but a bit derivative with Rawlins as a black variation on Philip Marlow (and he is not a private eye). They’d be better if they explored the issues in a bit more depth. Maybe the later ones do?
