790. Raymond Chandler - The Little Sister

Didn’t plan to read another immediately, but finished 789 in bed on Thursday.

These are quite hard work, but maybe reading late at night in bed with a couple of glasses of port doesn’t aid concentration. There are always a lot of characters and not as clearly defined and differentiated as in a 19th century English novel (say George Eliot).

This one, I think, is about a mid West family whose daughter is a film star in Hollywood and is being blackmailed by her step brother and eponymous little step sister. The step siblings lose contact (or possibly fall out) and Marlow is engaged by little sister to find brother. But a lot of this is smoke and mirrors. If I read any more of these, I need to attend to the plot details better!
