771. Ruth Rendell - Road Rage

These books are quite good, and a welcome change. This has a fairly complex plot, about protests against a by- pass, and a series of abductions (including Dora Wexford) by a group apparently protesting against the plans. The police struggle to identify either the group or the location where they might be holding the hostages.

Eventually, after the death of one of the hostages, it unravels as an elaborate hoax being engineered by 2 of the apparent hostages and various cohorts. A bit elaborate plot for elaborate plot’s sake. Quite good otherwise.
