Completely different in tone from 767, which I enjoyed more. This is a quasi historical detective novel, the historical bit of the plot a country house murder in 1963, in which Dalziel was involved as a junior detective, but the case is now reopened and his main concern is to defend his now ex and deceased boss from being accused of a cover up.
The plot is complex and unwieldy (no pun there) involving English aristocracy, sex, aristocratic spying for Russia, so very Christine Keeler, Kim Philby areas. I found it a bit over complicated and over elaborate.
