1/3 of The Divine Comedy. Inspired to give this a try, partly because Dorothy Sayers translated it, but I couldn’t find her version on Kindle. There is a very expensive one by Clive James but I went for the cheap and cheerful someone surnamed Cary.
Inferno (Hell) is I suspect the easiest to read but not that easy. The narrator (I assume Dante himself) is escorted round hell, as a kind of visitor/tourist by Virgil. He meets various characters from classical literature, and I think some contemporary and deceased friends from Florence. Readable but not exactly a fun read.
Started Purgatory, but this is a lot harder to read, so paused (or probably) gave up. But worth a try.
