726. Peter James - Dead At First Sight

I heard this guy on the radio and thought ‘Here’s a crime writer I have never heard of’. But a poor writer.

The plot theme was interesting. Wealthy UK/US middle aged people caught in an internet dating scam originating in central Africa. But that was the only good thing – the writing was poor, far too many (very short) chapters, seems to be a modern trend, the central character a detective whose name I forget was both characterless and pretty peripheral to the plot. He has a slightly complex domestic life which is also peripheral and doesn’t interact in any way with the plot.

There were far too many characters, typically plot incidental policemen all of whom had to be named and background created, quite unnecessarily.

I might try another one as this may be an aberration, but I don’t think I will rush to do so.
