717. Jessie Burton - The Muse

This is by the author of ‘The Miniturist’ which I have seen on television if not read. Not in the George Eliot class (well what would be?) but still very good.

A story told in parallels between Malaga (or just outside) in the 1930’s and London in the 1960’s, modern art, and a young female painter forced by convention to pretend that her lover (The Muse) was in fact the painter. A bit of Spanish Civil War, and west Indian immigration into London in the 60’s thrown in for good measure.

Very very good, better I think (certainly pacier) than The Miniturist.
