8/10 in the series ( I have just bought 9).
The locked room is apparently analogous to a chess puzzle; how has someone been shot dead (in this case with no gun present, alone in a room locked from the outside? Through the window which he pulls shut and auto locks as he is dying is the answer here).
The Beck books seem to be becoming increasingly schizophrenic; the main plot here is very good; the subplot is slapstick keystone cops farce.
Beck finds a new woman; I thought at first this might be the same plot-line used by Lawrence Block in no.36.
