697. Julian Barnes - Before She Met Me

Needed something easy to read after the rigours of 696 so plucked this off the bookshelf.

It is pretty low grade really – a tiresome academic ditches wife one in favour of younger model and then becomes obsessed with her sexual history, mainly bit parts in films with actors she may (or may not) have slept with.

Tiresome academic seeks advice from his friend a very Kingsley Amis like lecherous and flatulent novelist; it transpires that he has been sleeping with Ann throughout and the book ends with the murder of the novelist and suicide of the academic.

I thought Julian Barnes was better but maybe this was a deliberate Graham Greene style ‘entertainment’. Not certain that it achieved this.
