689. DJ Taylor - Rock And Roll Is Life

A library book of Paddy’s. She liked it, I didn’t much, although one would have expected the opposite, given that I am more into rock and roll than she is.

It was a kind of (this is negative already isn’t it) satire based on a fictional 1960’s/70’s rock band called the Helium Kids. They had bits of the Stones, Beatles, Who, threaded through the narrative, but there was no real pace to or indeed plot structure at all, just a cynical chronicle of the times written by their purported publicist, who as a character I found totally uninteresting.

Yes I am sure the rock and roll world was full if cheap corruption (like most worlds), but I am not sure that this told me much more than that.
