Although I think regarded as a classic of 19th century Russian literature, I thought this had dated badly and didn’t really enjoy it. My problem was with the hero Bazarov, who I found totally characterless. I don’t think a word he said in the book interested me. Otherwise it seemed a slight comedy of manners.
