A book by an Indian BBC presenter about an Indian guy who murdered in 1940 the British colonial administrator responsible for the Amritsar massacre in India in 1919, an Irish colonial called O’Dwyer.
Strange book, part history, part historical fiction, not brilliantly written, but a fascinating story about which I knew absolutely nothing, with a central figure who is pretty bonkers, but gets his man in the end. For a middle class sounding British educated Indian, it comes over as fiercely anti British, or certainly anti British early 20th century imperialism.
A good background, from an Indian point of view, to the Jewel in the Crown.
