The 4th and final novel of the sequence. I never normally read books out of sequence but P had this from the library and we have watched the wonderful TV adaptation of Book 1 'My Brilliant Friend'.
These are brilliant books about working class Naples post war and two girls, one of whom remains in her Neapolitan working class world and the other, the narrator, who branches out into literature, politics and journalism and escapes sporadically from Naples, although she remains rooted there.
There are a huge number of characters in the ghetto where they are brought up and it really is a panoramic view of post war Italian culture, although very focussed on Naples.
Book 4 was quite hard to read with gaps over 2 and 3, but it is brilliant.
