64. James Robertson - And The Land Lay Still

This was long and difficult. Much of it was excellent, although I found the lengthy middle section, narrated by a very alcoholic and hallucinating ex-spook, hard work.

A book about Scottish history and politics post 2nd world war, narrated mainly by a wonderful mixture of very working-class Scottish folk, all of whom have had difficult and complex lives.

Definitely worth another read, probably, given its length, on holiday rather than fit around working life and a couple of great test matches between England & India.

There was some wonderful writing here.
