632. Nell Stevens - Mrs Gaskell And Me

A library book of Paddy's.

Couldn’t entirely make this out – an eponymous (Nell Stevens) PhD student in London has a love affair which in some respects parallels one that Mrs Gaskell (I assume in reality) has with an American she met in Rome.

A slightly experimental book (three possible endings), well written and easy to read, but I struggled at times to see quite what the point was or how the (inexact) parallel with Mrs Gaskell worked.

The author both teaches creative fiction and has her own PhD in Victorian literature, but I wonder ( and doubt) whether anyone will read this in 20 year’s time?
