This last of the Jackson Brodies’ restored my faith in Kate Atkinson after the disappointing 625. This is a brilliant book, clever, complex and great fun to read. I remember it on the TV – Pauline Quirk was brilliant as the child stealing (well she bought the girl actually) heroine.
The Yorkshire ripper meets police corruption meets TV soaps, and Scarborough + Jackson Brodie and the dog whose owner he beat up to rescue, with lots of jokey Shakespeare references thrown in for fun.
You don’t get that sort of variety in Ian Rankin!
