60. Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö - The Fire Engine That Disappeared


Pretty good, again.

A book about an absent (for most of the book) criminal, the police spend most of the time looking for a murderer who is already dead, as indeed they search for a fire engine. So lots of confused identities.

I can see little resemblance to Ed McBain, apart from the fact that they are police procedurals - these have better although sparsely drawn characters, each with weird personality quirks. McBain's are mainly male US stereotypes.
