592. A. J. Finn - The Woman In The Window

The 2nd long library book in 4 days. This one was much better written than the last, although I was disappointed by the ending.

A woman with agoraphobia lives alone in a New York house watching her neighbours with some interest. She is quite an interesting character, a child psychologist, alcoholic and totally dosed up on pills (+ booze) following an undisclosed event. Quite obsessed with Hitchcock and films noire, I probably missed a lot of references.

She sees a murder in a house across the street, and draws quite the wrong conclusion about the victim, perpetrator and chain of events. Her own history begins to emerge. But the ending was disappointing melodrama, a shame after such a good read until then.
