580. Laura Freeman - The Reading Cure

A library book of Paddy’s, about how reading helped a girl to (partially) overcome her anorexia.

I found it quite annoying; the author is a well educated English middle class journalist and there were bits of this where I felt that some well connected friend had told her that people in her position write books – so what could she write about? Well, anorexia, so she trawls through Eng Lit for references to food and the pleasures of eating.

It is unclear whether all this reading has in fact cured her; she dives at times into dangerous foods but is then back to being anorexic. So not really one for me.
