Had read this before, but having enjoyed Boyd recently, thought I would give it another try.
It is readable, but one of those books I can't really see the point of. I don't suppose the fact that chimpanzees are cannibalistic is new as science, and the girl who narrates the story isn't particularly interesting. She marries a mentally disturbed mathematician who eventually kills himself, goes off to Africa to study chimps, gets caught up in a civil war, but so what.
There is a lot of mathematical/philosophical stuff about game and probability theory that didn't mean much to me.
