551. Tim O'Brien - In The Lake Of The Woods

Bought this years ago, for obvious reasons and have never managed to read it.

It is actually very good, about a couple who both disappear (husband possibly having murdered wife), but it is left very open and husband is a magician, as well as a Vietnam vet and failed politician, the failure triggering the plot.

Written with lots of footnotes, both real (about atrocities, not only Vietnam but politics and life in general) and fictitious (comments on events by characters in the book, and also authorial interjections into these). So a really clever bit of writing.

Can’t say I warmed to it or any other the characters, but perhaps that wasn’t the point.
