A pre 'Slough House' novella.
Begins as a slightly old fashioned Le Carre type spy thriller and gradually introduces some 'Slough House' characters in minor roles, including interestingly JK Coe, who, unless I am confusing characters, doesn't appear in the main sequence until 535 above.
Very clever, if slightly, old fashioned plotting – the list (found in a dead agents’ flat first) appears to have problematic implications, is then explained away by the character who needs it to be thus, but its significance is explained to him by the omniscient (this needs correcting if the series is to develop) Jackson Lamb.
Very good indeed.
