534. Cath Staincliffe - The Silence Between Breaths

Airport/aeroplane reading but this was completely different.

A disparate group of characters are travelling Manchester to Euston in the same carriage on the same train. They interact sporadically and different bits of life history emerge; there is even a budding romance.

It gradually becomes clear that one of the characters is a muslim suicide bomber targeting Euston and one of the others grows suspicious, alerts the train guard (also a muslim) who tries to move the innocent into a different carriage. The bomber realises, panics and detonates his bomb. Most of them are killed but a few survive either with desperate injuries or loss of remaining family. The survivors try, with limited success, to set up a reunion group.

Totally different and in fact very interesting as a novelistic concept.
