I loved this, but she is a much better writer about the complex personal interactions within Three Pines than she is when she tries to widen the canvass and cover, inter alia as here, the drug trade in Canada and the US (viz the corruption in the Quebec Surete in a lot of the earlier novels).
She just doesn’t do these big plot themes as well and they distract here from the main plot which is really about the mysterious cobrador who appears in Three Pines and scares the wits out of the residents. The link between this ‘character’ and the drug cartels is forced and artificial.
Still a great read though!
