48. J.K. Rowling - The Casual Vacancy

Never read any Harry Potter, this is her first adult book.

I thought it was very good: complex, multilayered and multi-class plot about modern 'middle England', small town divided by new town and old, class and geography of inhabitants, full of bitter rivalries and jealousies amongst (mainly) the middle classes.

Wondered whether the casual vacancy was of God, in whose absence a community like this struggles for direction.

Lots of great characters and a pretty good plot.
