Book of the year so far.
A brilliant crime novel, quasi-police procedural, set in or near Dublin. Plotting exceptional, writing very good and characterisations great, so for a 1st novel this ticks loads of boxes. Also very long – I don‘t know how many pages in paper form, but + 400 I would guess.
Very clever plot with 2 narratives running brilliantly in parallel, the disappearances of 2 kids in some woods 30 years ago (never solved), and the murder of a child nearby in current time. One of the detectives investigating the murder was present (and conceivably a suspect) as a child at the time of the earlier murder.
I am still a bit overwhelmed by it to summarise coherently which is a tribute to its quality. So I will shut up for now!
