469. Jane Austen - Sense And Sensibility

Tim O'Brien

I found this difficult and hard work. The two sisters (Elinor – sense) and (Marianne – which I think means passion) both fall in love with men and appear to be jilted by them for mercenary reasons.

I couldn’t follow Elinor’s eventual reconciliation with Edward Ferrars and Marianne was almost forced by needs of plot symmetry to marry Colonel Brandon at the end.

But it was hard work throughout.
