450. Charles Cumming - A Spy By Nature

I seem to have finished the very good Tom Kell trilogy. This is the first in a (somebody else) series and it is not a promising start.

A pompous and rather self important (somebody else) fails the Civil Services exams (described interminably) and is recruited into a quasi espionage role, which neither he (nor this reader) fully understands.

At the end of the book, his estranged girlfriend dies in a car accident, which he is convinced, possibly rightly, is the work of MI5 or the CIA. The narrator is hard work, and the narrative also.
