Pretty good and a lot better than no.376, which it follows.
This is, I think, the culmination of the Gamache/Francoeur conflict which began explicitly in no.376 with the highjacking of Beauvoir by the latter. It eventually becomes clear what is going on.
As almost a backdrop, Gamache has the murder of the last survivor of a celebrated set of quintuplets, born in the 1930’s and much publicised, to solve. The 2 plots slightly get in each other’s way, but the main plot pulls all the Quebec police characters together, despite their divisions, and of course the good prevail.
Set mainly in Three Pines, whose characters we now all know inside out.
