379. William Boyd - Sweet Caress

Very readable, but a little similar to other (I think W Boyd) books; the 20th century seen through the developing life of an individual.

So she goes to Berlin in the 1930’s, then New York, a bit of involvement in the end of World War 2, later Vietnam, and finally California in search of her daughter.

The heroine is a rather accidental photographer and the book is illustrated with photos I gather from Boyd’s own collection masquerading as hers.

It is quite good but maybe a bit typically English middle class and not all that challenging.
